Waterproof layer

  • PUL – Polyurethane Laminated fabric (PUL) is a breathable waterproof fabric. It is soft, stretchy and pliable with a smooth knit on one side and a wipe-able surface on the other side.
  • Softshell – Waterproof Soft Shell fleece fabric is made using some of the latest technology in moisture management fabrics. It is a bonded fabric with one side luxuriously soft microfleece and the other side a thin polyester knit. It is trim, stretchy and breathable.

Stay-dry layer

  • AWJ – Athletic wicking jersey has come over to cloth diapers from athletic wear. AWJ is good for diaper lining, and as a stay-dry top layer for inserts and pads. It has birdseye dimples for extra breathability and it is not a see-through fabric
  • Suedecloth – Suedecloth is a brushed polyester fabric. The brushed side is very soft and fluffy, and this fabric’s ability to maintain a stay-dry feel after letting moisture pass through makes it a very popular choice for use in cloth diapers

Absorbent layers

  • Cotton Fleece – 100% Cotton Fleece has many uses due to its softness, absorbency and breathability. It is a smooth knit on one side and has a fluffy, brushed finish on the other side.  It is locally grown and manufactured in South Africa.
  • Hemp Fleece – Hemp fleece is ultra durable and very thirsty. Because it is a natural fibre, it can become a bit stiff after washing but tumble drying for a few minutes will soften fabric.
  • Cotton Velour – 80% cotton 20% polyester high quality, plush, soft cotton velour.  Velour feels similar to velvet, in that it is a pile fabric. Soft and thick, velour is a luxurious fabric for nappies. Velour can be used next to baby’s skin, or any area of the diaper. It is absorbent and does not have wicking properties like 100% polyester fleece.
